The objective of the research was to identify, from the perspective of psychoanalysis, how the narrator Montresor fits into the concept of perversity. For that, we made an overview of the main aspects that permeate the theory of perversion and we studied the life and work of Edgar Allan Poe. We carried out bibliographical research regarding Poe's short story work and essays, as well as the Gothic in literature and the psychoanalytic concept of perversion. Our analysis was mainly based on Correa (2006), Dor (1991), Acosta (2018), Roudinesco (2007) and Freud (1996). Perversion is based on a desire to transgress the social norm. Starting from the psychoanalytical analysis of the short story: "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe, observing the character Montresor and his realization of the impulse of perversity. Finally, we present the analysis of perversion in the short story from a psychoanalytical point of view.
