This study aimed to investigate the role of motivation in the learning process of children in the school context. It is increasingly observed that students are unmotivated to learn, with a lack of commitment and involvement in school activities. This scenario has driven the conduct of several studies and the development of theories on the importance of motivation in the academic learning process. The problem of this research is to analyze whether motivation is a determining factor for students' academic success. The methodology adopted was a bibliographical research, of a qualitative nature, which analyzed the results of five master's and undergraduate dissertations that carried out field research with participants including teachers, parents and students. The analyses took into account the contributions of the Historical-Cultural approach and Maslow's hierarchy of basic needs. The results indicate that motivation is an essential factor for learning, directly influencing school performance in the teaching-learning process. In addition, it was possible to identify the main motivational factors present in the school
environment. It is concluded that motivation is a fundamental characteristic for students to learn and develop their abilities to the maximum, as well as for teachers to pursue their educational goals, supporting students in this process. |
