The aim of the study was to develop a participatory model of solid waste management to the rural settlement Sítio, in the municipality of Palmas-TO. The rural settlement Sítio it is located in Buritirana district, the approximately 70 km the municipal headquarter. The method used consisted of literature review; diagnostic socioeconomic, cultural and environmental; segrega-tion of waste into 04 groups and 05 classes; cubage; quantification and statistical analysis. Were collected and analyzed 08 waste samples in the settlement. The results indicate an organized community through associations, that destiny household waste through burning, 54%; burning end disposal in soil, 16%; sky disposal open, 12%; and transport to appropriate place, 08%. The composition of the waste is putrescible organic matter, 37.89%; potentially recyclable, 32.15%; various materials, 15.85%; potentially dangerous, 6.79%; and potentially infective, 7.32%. The waste management increases 1.17% in incentives granted by the government to the municipality by develop sustainable environmental policies. The waste management the tip to increasing social participation, transparency, quality the management and environmental education. The participatory management of solid waste in rural settlement promote the minimization of waste sent to final disposal, and promotes and propagate the reduction, reuse and recycling of mate-rials. |
