The objective of this work was to understand the perceptions of small farmers in the
District of Taquaruçu and Taquaruçu Grande de Palmas, Tocantins, about the National Rural
Sanitation Program, about solid waste in the region, identifying the different forms of disposal
given to solid waste generated in eight rural properties. A questionnaire was applied to the
farmers, via the Google Forms platform, where the data for this research were collected. The
results showed that although farmers do not fully understand the National Rural Sanitation
Program, they all consider it important to correctly manage solid waste and understand that
incorrect waste disposal harms the environment. However, erroneous disposal methods are
still used, requiring attention to environmental education so that the applied public policies
are successful.
