This article aims to analyze, through a comparative study, the short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, written by the American author Washington Irving (1783-1859), and the cinematographic adaptation Sleepy Hollow (1999), directed by Tim Burton, considering the supernatural configured in the Headless Horseman, as well as the versions of the protagonist Ichabod Crane presented in both works. We sought to understand how the adaptation processes modified and added elements to the narrative through the theories of Hutcheon (2006), Stam (2000) and Sanders (2006). At last, the role of the film and director Tim Burton in enhancing Washington Irving and his work. |
