The RI Tapajós is formed by six municipalities, and its urban formation was successful from countless economic, political and social actors over time, which provided development to the municipalities, however, it caused conflicts of different orders, highlighting the RI Tapajós, among the 12 Integration Regions of Pará, for presenting the worst socioeconomic and environmental indicators, thus expressing the need to investigate the levels of sustainability in that region. The study was carried out through the application of the Urban Sustainability Index System (SISU), an analysis system based on the use of indicators and variables, comprising: Municipal Human Development Index (MHDI), the Political Capacity Index - Institutional (ICP) and the Environmental Quality Index (IQA). In a general scenario of sustainability for this region, regarding the MHDI, all the municipalities presented evolution in their indexes, with highlight to Aveiro, Novo Progresso and Trairão, which presented a greater increase between the studied period. For ICP, all municipalities also showed increases in their values, especially Jacareacanga and Trairão, expressing the highest percentages. As for the IQA, a reduction in the rates of Novo Progresso and Rurópolis is observed, due to an increase in automotive pressure, domestic consumption and a reduction in the vegetation coverage rates of these municipalities. In general, the indicators of the three indices indicate advances achieved by the municipalities between the studied period, however, setbacks that constitute challenges, and that need to be studied and better managed in order to achieve sustainable development in the region. O presente estudo objetiva investigar e analisar os níveis de sustentabilidade urbana nos municípios pertencentes à Região de Integração (RI) do Tapajós- Pará, para os anos 2000 e 2010, assim como os principais avanços e retrocessos relacionados a sustentabilidade na região. A RI Tapajós é formada por seis municípios, e teve sua formação urbana sucedida a partir de inúmeros atores econômicos, políticos e sociais ao longo do tempo, o que proporcionou desenvolvimento aos municípios, porém, ocasionou conflitos de diversas ordens, destacando a RI Tapajós, entre as 12 Regiões de Integração do Pará, por apresentar os piores indicadores socioeconômicos e ambientais, expressando assim, a necessidade da investigação dos níveis de sustentabilidade nessa região. O estudo foi realizado por meio da aplicação do Sistema de índice de Sustentabilidade Urbana (SISU), um sistema de análise a partir do uso de indicadores e variáveis, que compreende: Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano Municipal (IDHM), o Índice de Capacidade Político-Institucional (ICP) e o Índice de Qualidade Ambiental (IQA). Em um cenário geral da sustentabilidade para essa região, quanto ao IDHM, todos os municípios apresentaram evolução em seus índices, com destaque para Aveiro, Novo Progresso e Trairão, que apresentaram maior incremento entre o período estudado. Para o ICP, todos os municípios também apresentaram incrementos em seus valores, com destaque para Jacareacanga e Trairão, expressando os maiores percentuais. Já para o IQA, é observado uma redução nos índices de Novo Progresso e Rurópolis, devido um aumento da pressão automotiva, consumo doméstico e redução nas taxas de cobertura vegetal desses municípios.
