Community-based tourism is an alternative modality to conventional tourism, as an
alternative to the potential and appreciation of local specificities, through the inclusion of
the community in the development of tourism, as a generator of income and improvement
of quality of life. In this context, the present research study had the general objective of
understanding the importance of the existing community-based tourism project in the
neighborhood, through the perception of those involved in the project of the tourist
potential from the perspective of the population in the neighborhood. For the research,
questionnaires were applied, with open questions, in which the respondents exposed their
empirical knowledge. It was found that, despite not knowing the technical concepts about
this tourism segment, the informants understand its definition by essence and experience.
In this scenario, there is an appreciation of the local routine, where tourism is a secondary
economic activity, which values and rescues the importance of local ways of life.
