The main objective of this article is to investigate the issue of household solid waste in the
neighborhood of Santo André, in the municipality of Santarém (PA). The method was based on
the Case Study, aided by the quanti / qualitative approach. The instruments were subjective
questionnaires containing 06 (six) questions applied to a target audience of 25 (twenty five)
participants. The technique used to analyze data collected in the field was based on Travassos
(2004). The main result. were: a) residents' knowledge about SR, with a percentage of 52% is
all that is produced; to 24%, everything that is discarded in the day to day, and only 24% did
not know to answer; b) the treatment for RS in the residences appears with 12%, that they
deposit in suitable places, 80% separate and send to selective collection and 8% use the
practice of the Turing; c) on the reduction of consumerism of RS, to 90% of the residents stated
that they reduce consumerism and only 10% did not attend the inquiry; among others. It is
hoped that the work may serve as an aid in the construction of the public policies of the
municipal government on residential households, as well as the scientific community, those
interested in the object of study.
