Introduction: The perspective of comprehensive health care is based not only on assistance, but also on the biopsychosocial model. In this context of holistic knowledge and care, research on the theme of Integrative and Complementary Practices (PICS) is promoted in Brazil, comprising a set of therapeutic practices and actions that differ from conventional treatment. Due to the difficulty that traditional medicine provides to solve diseases, cancer patients seek support in these PICS with the perspective of finding healing and balance between body and mind with a holistic principle and with an emphasis on health. Objective: To carry out an integrative review of the literature on integrative and complementary practices of the SUS in the care of cancer patients. Methodology: This is an Integrative Literature Review, carried out in the Virtual Health Library (BVS) and Google Scholar, using as inclusion criteria articles published in Portuguese, English and Spanish between the years 2001 to 2021, which were available for consultation with the following descriptors: Alternative and Complementary Medicine, Integrative Medicine, Cancer. Results: The study found 25 articles published and indexed in different databases, 8 of which were found in the BVS and 17 in Google Scholar. The data showed that the individuals, after the unconventional treatment, felt an improvement in the reduction of stress, in the quality of sleep and mainly in the impacts caused by the biomedical treatment. Self-care and the perception of these practices with a beneficial effect on life were also considered, acting in the reduction of suffering, overcoming the pathology of cancer and pointing to the other benefits that these practices can generate. Final Considerations: The study showed the numerous benefits in the use of PICs in the face of oncological cases, presented in a humanized way, considering the individual as a whole, in comprehensive care. Integrative and complementary practices are low-cost technologies capable of supporting patients' quality of life, but there is still resistance between managers and professionals. |
