Resumo:
This study aimed to investigate the knowledge of students from a public school in the state of Amapá about snakes, in order to expand their knowledge about the biology of these animals and to demystify the beliefs that surround it. 41 students regularly enrolled in the 7th grade of Barão do Rio Branco State School participated in this research. Data collection took place through the application of questionnaires containing objective and discursive questions. The results obtained showed that the students, for the most part, had an average knowledge about snakes, since 61% (n = 25) knew that snakes are reptiles. On the other hand, 78.05% (32) of the students stated, initially, that they were afraid of these animals, which reveals the need for a practical conduct of the class for students to be able to have contact with snakes. The educational intervention proved to be efficient in bringing the student into contact with snakes. The lecture expanded the knowledge of the students, since many answered the questions correctly in the final questionnaire. The booklet and the use of the didactic collection promoted the students' enthusiasm, helping to fix the content and share it. The activities carried out in a practical way related to the perception of poisonous or toxic animals contribute not only to the expansion of theoretical knowledge, but mainly promote changes in the perception of the participants who, as social agents, will contribute to the preservation of these animals.
