Resumo:
This study aims to identify the occurrence patterns of pediatric patients diagnosed with leprosy in the Tropical Diseases Reference Center of the State of Amapá (CRDT-AP) from 2008 to 2016 and to analyze the variables that support the persistence of the endemicity of this pathology in this age group. This is an observational, retrospective, transversal, quantitative, descriptive, epidemiological survey performed at the CRDT-AP. The data collection was made through the Information System of Notifiable Diseases (SINAN), n:117 patients with ages between 0 and 15 years. It was observed the predominance of males (61,5%), age group between 11 and 15 years (63%), mixed-race majority (87%), urban area residents (69%), Multibacillary form (58,1%), with Dimorphic clinical form (52,1%), 53,9% had more than 5 leprosy lesions, varying from 1 to 6 affected nerves (52,1%), evolving to a degree of no incapacity at the moment of discharge (86,3%). Precarious environmental and socioeconomic conditions associated to the quality of epidemiological vigilance actions may be contributing to the persistence of the endemic situation of the disease in the State of Amapá. Characterized by the significant impairment of pediatric patients with multibacillary form, what strengthens the need for better prevention and treatment strategies for the disease in this region of the Amazon.
