This research sought to analyze the Integrated System of Management of Academic Activities
(SIGAA), as an Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and its relationship with
public management in the organizational context of a Higher Education Institution. A multicase
study using mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) was undertaken in two
interdisciplinary postgraduate programs - PPGDSTU/NAEA and PPGEDAM/NUMA, of the
Federal University of Pará. The study aimed to investigate the usefulness of the SIGAA for
the academic and administrative management in these programs based on the reflections of
professors, students and technical-administrative staff. The results of the study confirmed that
SIGAA is a system that has proven to be useful for the academic-administrative management
of the programs under study, in that it was capable of data retrieval and proving information
that contribute to the decision-making process. However, in view of some students, SIGAA
has been underutilized in response to the resistance of some professors of both programs in
exploring all the potentialities present in the system. Thus, it is suggested that there be
constant training for all user categories and an institutional policy to stimulate more intensely
the use of this technological tool to achieve the objectives of the postgraduate programs,
which for are subset of UFPA. |
