The museum is understood here as a space for the production of knowledge, representation and silencing memories. The objective was to analyze the narratives and knowledge produced by students from the 3rd year of high school at the Maranhão Institute of Education, Science and Technology - IEMA, based in Timon MA, from a class visit to the Memorial Museum of Balaiada. From the workshop to prepare students for the class to visit, the visitation and the students' previous knowledge, it was problematized and discussed notions about memory, history, heritage and museum, trying to make the students see the objects as a historical research document and the museum as a space for disputes over memories. As a result of the research, a website was built as a product of the Balaiada Memorial Museum for use by teachers and students, the website has methodological guidelines for teachers, photo gallery, museum history, summary of the whaling and the virtual museum for visitation 360º available in http://www.memorialvirtual.com. O presente trabalho estuda as possibilidades de usos dos objetos musealizados e do patrimônio edificado, as ruínas de um forte do século XIX, esculturas e monumento a D. de Caxias do Museu Memorial da Balaiada, em Caxias MA, como recursos didáticos nas aulas de História para a construção de saberes históricos com base na associação do ensino à pesquisa com fontes documentais. O museu é compreendido, nesta dissertação, como espaço de produção de conhecimento, representação e silenciamento de memórias. O objetivo foi analisar as narrativas e os saberes produzidos pelos discentes do 3° Ano do Ensino Médio do Instituto de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Maranhão – IEMA, sediado em Timon MA, com base em uma aula visita ao Museu Memorial da Balaiada. Com base na oficina de preparação dos alunos para a aula visita, da visitação e dos conhecimentos prévios dos alunos, discutiram-se noções sobre memória, história, patrimônio e museu, buscando fazer com que os alunos vissem os objetos como documento de investigação histórica e o museu como espaço de disputas de memórias. Como resultado da pesquisa, foi construído como produto um site do Museu memorial da Balaiada para uso de professores e alunos. O site possui orientações metodológicas para os docentes, galeria de fotos, histórico do museu, resumo sobre a Balaiada e o museu virtual para a visitação em 360º disponível em http://www.memorialvirtual.com.
