The starting point of this project was the application of a survey among the students of the High School classes of the State School Dr. Ulysses Guimarães, located in the city of Belém, Pará. The data obtained with the survey, in which the students answered questions about their preferred topics and others related to History learning, provided rich material used in analyzes and reflections about the teaching of History. In the survey, there was an indication of interest on the topic of World War II. Considering the interest shown by the consulted students and the aim of deepening theoretical and methodological studies on historical iconographic sources, the choice was to develop a study on photography in World War II in order to reflect upon the possibilities, limits and particularities of the photographic document and its potential for teaching and learning history. As well as written documents, photographs are also significant sources of information and reveal much more than a “portrait” of experienced reality. In order to analyze the documentary richness of photography, developing a methodological study of this type of source is important, and this should be based on theoretical references both from authors who approach photography and from those in the field of history teaching. CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Este trabalho pretende refletir teórica e metodologicamente acerca do uso da fotografia no ensino de História, considerando os fundamentos da literacia histórica, a fotografia como fonte histórica e a produção de um livro paradidático eletrônico (e-book) como possibilidade de ferramenta pedagógica para estudantes do Ensino Médio e professores. O ponto de partida deste projeto foi a aplicação de uma pesquisa junto aos alunos das turmas de Ensino Médio da Escola Estadual Dr. Ulysses Guimarães, localizada no município de Belém, no Pará. Os dados obtidos com a pesquisa, na qual os alunos responderam questões sobre suas temáticas de preferência e outras ligadas ao aprendizado em História, proporcionaram rico material utilizado em análises e reflexões acerca do ensino de História. Na pesquisa, houve indicação de interesse sobre a temática Segunda Guerra Mundial. Considerando o interesse manifesto pelos estudantes consultados e o objetivo de aprofundar os estudos teóricos e metodológicos sobre fontes históricas iconográficas, optou-se por desenvolver estudo sobre a fotografia na Segunda Guerra Mundial a fim de refletir sobre as possibilidades, limites e particularidades do documento fotográfico e suas potencialidades para o ensino e aprendizagem em História. Assim como os documentos escritos, as fotografias também são fontes significativas de informações e revelam muito mais que um “retrato” da realidade vivida.
