Fonte: PDF/ Catálogo Teses Capes Waste management at universities is complex and requires a systemic and integrated effort across an academic community. UFPA, in particular, the Institute of Biological Sciences, has an important role in the training of future professionals, as well as, from an educational approach, engaged and committed to environmental management, in a harmonious conscious work environment between human activities and the environment. The Institute, in addition to fulfilling its role, in the context in which it is inserted, which is teaching, research and service, has to serve as an example, based on its environmental management practices, thus minimizing the impacts arising from their daily activities, contributing to the awareness of society. In the Public or Private Universities, the volume of waste generated is generally small; however, a diversity of cargo is large, which makes it difficult to treat them. The waste generated at ICB allows a priori handling procedures and methods for passivation and / or final disposal, as they can be disposed of distinctly due to household waste, emphasized as different laboratory areas where there are activities with chemical, biological or infectious diseases, should be diagnosed as risk factors and safety actions, according to current legislation, damage to the university community and the environment. The work was classified as a descriptive and empirical research, through the case study, using a questionnaire, addressed to the servers of the laboratories, in order to analyze how the waste is managed. It was observed the lack of attention, lack of knowledge regarding the legal norms and deficiencies of technical information available for waste. It is concluded, therefore, that the ICB needs to develop an efficient environmental education, as a tool of action, so that it can implant a PGRSS, allowing greater security to the acts of the administration
