The history of books and readers in Brazil has been object of several researches in brazilian
universities, guided for interests in writing and reading practices from the colony
times to contemporary era. This study is about a private library, the Raimundo Jinking’s
collection, and its meaning for a historical time, as well as for a man and his family,
offering a remarkable view into a communist leader’s intellectual formation through his
extensive lectures. It also demonstrates the importance of books as a path for political activism
and ideological construction by providing a journalistical production and, last but
not least, preserving in vivid ways the ideas and memory of the collector. |
