Leptospirosis has presented a high prevalence in our region. It is an infectious, multisystem disease which affects various organs and frequently strikes the heart, actually being one of the main causes of death among its carriers. The objective of such paper was to evaluate the behaviour clinical-cardiologic, eletrocardiographic and thorax radiologic findings of patients with clinical-epidemiological diagnosis of leptospirosis in its acute phase, in a hospital place. For this reason, it was performed a transversal study with 41 patients - six females and 35 males - ages 15 to 78, admitted at Hospital Universitário João de Barros Barreto, during the period of february, 2002 to june, 2003. The participants of such study have been submitted to anamnesis and clinical examination, with emphasis on the cardio-vascular system and have performed one to three eletrocardiograms, one thorax radiography and laboratory routine examinations. When the clinical findings were analysed, 37 (90,2%) presented signs and symptoms compatible to the myocardium involvement. The eletrocardiographic abnormalities occurred in 20 cases, corresponding to 48.7% of the total. The average levei of potassium was 3.8 meq/l. Most alterations were reversible and the main one corresponded to a super-unleveling of the ST segment, without statistical significant difference (p > 0,05) between them. As for the 37 individual who presented symptoms and signs suggesting a cardiac involvement, there was no significant statistical difference (p > 0,05) among the normal and altered eletrocardiograms. In only eigth individuals there were radiologic abnormalities (19.5%), being the slight growth of the left ventriculum with lung interticial infiltrate in its basis was the main finding, with significant statistical difference (p < 0,05) among other kinds of lung infiltration. Hence, in this paper, the principal clinical findings were: hepatomegalia and dispnea; eletrocardiographics: super-unleveling of the ST segment and sinusal taquicardia with reversion in most cases and; radiologics: discreet left ventriculum growth with lung infiltration in its basis.
