Resumo:
Stool samples collected through the Rectal Swab in the Cary-Blair medium of 38 patients with HIV/AIDS who had diarrhea, admitted to the João de Barros Barreto University Hospital (HUJBB) from January to September 1994. patients about: sex, age, risk factor, date of positivity of anti-HIV serology, if notified the date of notification, clinical summary directed to the gastrointestinal tract and on the use of antibiotics before hospitalization (ANNEX 1). Those who used antimicrobials in the 48 hours prior to admission were excluded. The samples were sent to the Evandro Chagas Institute for coproculture. Among the 38 patients analyzed, 34 (89.5%) were male, 29 (76.4%) were aged between 20 and 44 years. Regarding the risk factor, there was a predominance of homosexuals, totaling 14 cases (36.9%). From the analyzed stool samples, 19 types of bacteria were obtained with a total of 85 isolations. Among the bacteria considered enteropathogenic to humans, the following were detected in this study: Escherichia Coli Enteroinvasive, 2 Pseudomas, 2 Salmonellas and 2 Shigellas. The data obtained were correlated with the researched literature, reaching the conclusion that bacteria can be the causal agents of diarrhea in patients with HIV/AIDS, so they should be investigated, and that stool culture is a simple method that should be used. for the isolation of these agents.
