Resumo:
As the Brazilian indigenous movement gained prominence after the 1988 Constitution, the emerging political leaders of indigenous organizations need to coalesce their struggles and express a politicized ethnic identity among the various instances to government that their demands are met. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to investigate the political participation of COIAB focusing on the formation of political leadership. To meet this goal, the analysis of the indigenous movement in the Brazilian political scene post-88, the formation of political leaderships COIAB such as training courses, their target audience, so entry and exit and the actions of COIAB political leaders are steps necessary to understand the political process of this indigenous organization. The dynamics of the indigenous movement, a new form of inclusion in the political process in making decisions reflect the need for an increasingly broad articulation. COIAB can play a major role when it comes to indigenous political activism. Expressed thus an ethnic identity that aggregates all these values struggle of the Indigenous Movement as the search for an affirmation of identity, empowerment of indigenous leaders, as well as active participation.
