Ways and epistemological strategies in Art in the Amazons is the research line that is
linked to this thesis, whose object of study are the landscapes paintings of Pinto
Guimarães, made up during the second half of the twentieth century. It aims to
observe the paintings of the local artist Pinto Guimarães, both in its procedural
aspects of execution, as in the thematic choice of scenarios and landscaped
grounds, as well as the pictorial technique visual, relating its stylistic features to those
of nineteenth century French Impressionist paintings. The methodology is theoretical
by documentary contribution and biographical, with which paintings produced by the
artist in 1963 to 1996 are observed from original works and by reading photographs
of important works belonging to private and public collections. This study brings
together authors of art history dealing with the fundamentals of French impressionist
school, among which stand out Argan (1992), Balzi (2009), Cavalcanti, C. (1981),
Gompertz (2013), Lobstein (2010) Mason (2009), Newall (2011), Serullaz (1989) and
Hauser (1998). It brings to light the visual legacy that landscape paintings brought to
contemporary pictorial art in Belém, according to the stylistic influences to which they
were subjected during the period in which they were held. Finally, this research
points to the neutral marks of existence of Impressionism in the artist's work and
characteristics linked to modernity, but also reveals the true motivations that led the
author to the development of his landscape paintings. |
