A brief survey ofthe Zife and travels ofFrancisco de Melo Palheta is made. Only the report of his voyage up the Madeira River, in 1722-1723, by an anonymous author, contains some references to animais. Palheta is better known as the man who introduced the coffee plant in Brazil, from French Guiana.
