Research on the Rio Negro, in the context of a multiethnic Amerindian population, underlined the importance of this region as a center of diversity of cultivated plants. However, this diversity can not be assessed solely for its agricultural value. It fits into several domains of productive and cultural life, which gives it a patrimonial dimension. We propose to work on the broader notion of the agricultural system, which space, plants, associated material goods, and the food system. The concepts that the registration of intangible cultural assets, conducted by IPHAN-MinC, include diversified manifestations and open perspectives for the recording of broader elements of the Brazilian cultural patrimony, such as the registration of agricultural systems, among which the Rio Black, characterized by a multitude of interdependent elements and not by a single object or a single representative manifestation.
