This sub-project has the intention to continue the research about the migration of fishermen and their families. It is the object of one of the thematic axes of the General Project "Natural Resources and Anthropology of the maritime, riverine and lake populations of the Amazon; Study of the relationship between man and his environment" (RENAS). These studies have demonstrated the need to research this theme from new angles, in order to allow a wider intelligibility of the migratory process of fishermen who currently reside in Belém. In this way, we seek to identify and analyze the reasons for migration, the resources used in this migratory process such as transportation, information about the city of Belém, and the orientation from friends and relatives. We also want to know how they and their families settled in the city, in comparison to their social organization before this migration. The methodology used is based on field work using direct observation. We considered as essential technique the report of the fishing migrant himself and his family, as well as informal interviews, bibliographical survey and life stories.
