The research aims to collect and document the ceramic artifacts made by artisans who live in the headquarters and on 45 islands that are part of the municipality of Abaetetuba, located in the micro-region of Baixo Tocantins, northeast Pará. The resulting ethnography will seek to recover traditional rural technologies, since competition with industrial materials is contributing to their disappearance. A documentary work will be carried out through the identification, classification and cataloging of the artifacts. In the proposed study we will employ museological techniques to form the ethnographic collection, as well as the theoretical and methodological bases of anthropology, such as bibliographical sources, field work, oral history, and participant observation of the potters' daily life, thus aiming at an interdisciplinary perspective and scientific documentation. The Project will seek to enrich the ethnographic collection of the Goeldi Museum, as well as to include Abaetetuba in the mapping of popular pottery through a descriptive catalog of the pieces. In another stage, the results will be disseminated to the interested communities. O estudo da cerâmica popular de Abaetetuba, inserido no Projeto: "Coleções Etnográfica: Formação e Pesquisa Documental", coordenado por Lúcia Hussak van Velthen, do Departamento de Ciências Humanas/ MPEG, propõe-se a um estudo antropológico de cultura material a partir da formação de uma coleção etnográfica. A pesquisa objetiva coletar e documentar os artefatos de cerâmica confeccionados por artesãos que moram na sede e em 45 ilhas que fazem parte do Município de Abaetetuba, localizado na microrregião do Baixo Tocantins, nordeste do Pará. A etnografia resultante procurará recuperar tecnologias tradicionais rurais, pois a competição com materiais industriais está contribuindo para seu desaparecimento. Será realizado um trabalho documental através da identificação, classificação e catalogação dos artefatos. No estudo proposito empregamos técnicas museológicas para formação da coleção etnográfica assim como as bases teórico-metodológicas da antropologia, tais como fontes bibliográfica, trabalho de campo, história oral, observação participante do cotidiano de oleiros, visando, assim, uma perspectiva interdisciplinar e na documentação científica. O Projeto procurará enriquecer o acervo etnográfico do Museu Goeldi, assim como incluir Abaetetuba no mapeamento de cerâmica popular através de um catálogo descritivo das peças.
