Serra do Cachimbo is certainly one of the areas with the greatest lack of biological information in the south of Pará State, and there are no complete records on mammal diversity for the region. The present study is a contribution to the knowledge of this area, by compiling secondary records on local occurrences of mammalian species. Unpublished primary sources of information (expedition reports, EINRIMAS), data from zoological collections, as well as a list of species potentially distributed in the area were used. The compiled results indicate a very diverse and rich fauna in number of mammal species (approaching 350 species). Primary sources confirmed the occurrence of approximately 60 mammal species for the region, including a large number of threatened large mammals. Although preliminary, this is the most recent picture of the diversity of mammals in this area. |
