The present study is a contribution to the knowledge of this area, by compiling secondary records on local occurrences of mammalian species. Unpublished primary sources of information (expedition reports, EINRIMAS), data from zoological collections, as well as a list of species potentially distributed in the area were used. The compiled results indicate a very diverse and rich fauna in number of mammal species (approaching 350 species). Primary sources confirmed the occurrence of approximately 60 mammal species for the region, including a large number of threatened large mammals. Although preliminary, this is the most recent picture of the diversity of mammals in this area. A Serra do Cachimbo, é certamente uma das zonas de maior carência de informações biológicas no Sul do Estado do Pará, não existindo registros completos sobre a diversidade de mamíferos para a região. O presente trabalho é uma contribuição ao conhecimento dessa área, através da compilação de registros secundários sobre ocorrências locais de espécies da mastofauna. Foi feito um resgate de informações utilizando-se fontes primárias não publicadas (relatórios de expedições, EINRIMAS), dados retirados de coleções zoológicas, assim como listadas as espécies potencialmente distribuídas na área. Os resultados compilados indicam uma fauna bastante diversifica e rica em número de espécies de mamíferos (aproximando-se de 350 espécies). Através de fontes primárias foram confirmadas a ocorrência de aproximadamente 60 espécies de mamíferos para a região, incluindo-se nesse total um grande número de formas de mamíferos de grande porte ameaçadas de extinção.
