Different views of nature and technology characterized the debates about rubber production in the early 20th century (R. Bentes,
2005). This research deals, specifically, with the view of the governors of Pará
production, in the state, during the period 1900 to 1915.
1915. It aims to identify the notions of technology and use of natural resources, present in the speeches of those governors to the rubber production. Primary sources were used: albums, messages
and reports, produced by the governors; and secondary: literature review on the theme. Methodologically, we adopted the theory of Discourse Analysis, for this allows the observation, especially through the
ideological aspect, of the factors that contribute to the alliances, speeches, or silences
The analysis was based on the theory of discourse analysis. The tendency among the analyzed governors to substitute the "rudimentary" and "predatory" productive methods developed by the rubber plantation owners for others, considered as "rational use" of the state's wealth, was identified.
of the riches of the state. There was also a need, as indicated by the governors, for the establishment of a new educational perspective that would implement not only this
that would not only implement this form of rationality, but also provide a new educational
rationality, but also to provide technical qualification,
for the creation of technologies that would bring "satisfactory" results,
with regard, above all, to the quality of the rubber to be marketed.
We conclude that the discourse of the four governors analyzed, points
to a vision of nature to be explored, via scientific methods, in order to obtain the progress of Pará.
to obtain the progress of Pará, the Amazon, and even Brazil. |
