In the present study, an economic-financial analysis was carried out on the establishment project of a mining enterprise for gravel production in the city of Capitão Poço (northeastern Pará state, Brazil), aiming to demonstrate its economical viability. Taking into account the promising geological potential for gravel production in the area and the fact that the regional market is currently supplied on gravel by a single company (Mineração Santa Mônica, at Tracuateua), it is sustained that the establishment of a new production unit is necessary in order to increase gravel supply and meet the growing demands for the product. The research analyzed economical viability of the project taking into consideration the demands of the regional consumer market as well as the economic, structural and logistical aspects of the enterprise, and estimated cash flow for the 9-year lifespan of the deposit. The cash flow analysis and the financial investment indicators evaluation has demonstrated that: the Net Present Value (NPV) of cash flow ranges at R$ 158.728.531,91; the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of investment is 555%, the Profitability Index (PI) of the enterprise is R$ 30,97 and the payback period for the initial investment is 4 months. Based on these indicators, it is concluded that the establishment project is economically and financially viable, and it represents an excellent opportunity for investment and profit for entrepreneurs.
