Resumo:
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is the most serious manifestation of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The discovery of High Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) depicts the association of three or more drugs resulting in a significant reduction in the mortality rate of patients affected by HIV. However, it has been detected that HAART favors hematological and metabolic alterations, not yet fully clarified. Some of these metabolic modifications may be related to the gene expression of ATP citrate lyase (ACLY), since the ACLY enzyme, encoded by this gene, is directly related to lipid and cholesterol biosynthesis, as in some recent studies hematopoiesis. This study aimed to relate antiretroviral therapy to the development of anemia and dyslipidemia in patients with HIV using ART and its relation to the expression of the ACLY gene.
