Resumo:
Presents a study of the difficulties of enhancement and strategies of improvement for subject analysis, as well as investigating the strategies developed by professionals in the process of subject analysis in an attempt to hone an methodology for the cataloging of subjects. It has as main objective to attain a discussion of enhancement about methodology of representation of contente of documents in the university scope from the sociocognitive context of catalogers. It has the following specific objectives: a) To study in the literature on the sociocognitive context of the cataloger in the subject cataloging; subject analysis and the normalization study for subject representation. b) Investigate the structure of the Guidelines of subject analysis from the application of the Individual Verbal Protocol with six catalogers from UFPA. c) Collaborate in the discussion to validate the subject analysis Guidelines as an instrument capable of providing standardization in the subject analysis in university libraries. From the methodological point of view, this study fits as a theoretical-practical research, with qualitative descriptive approach. It was used used an Individual Verbal Protocol (PVI), with six catalogers in six university libraries, for reading and discussion of a text. The product of the technique addressed in this research generated categories for analysis, enabling an investigation from the mental processes of professionals in relation to the process of subject analysis in the cataloging of subject in university context. It was possible to discuss, from the transcripts of the PVI, the strengths and weaknesses of the guidelines of subject analysis, evidencing that some attitudes can be negatively reflected at the time of information retrieval. In view of the advances obtained in this research, it was observed that there is a great need to hone normative methodologies for the subject analysis, due to two reasons: the difficulties from process of the subject analysis in the subject cataloging observed in studies developed in the area and also by results of a lack methodological in the área
