These are usually caused by pressure on an area of tissue, not allowing sufficient perfusion. It mainly affects patients in bed, and in intensive care units their occurrence is more frequent. This work it is an exploratory research with a quantitative approach that aimed to classify the risk of pressure ulcers of patients hospitalized through the Braden Scale, as well as assessing what the indicator of the scale was more affected in patients. The study sample consisted of 23 patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital João de Barros Barreto, from September to November 2011. To identify the risk scores used the Braden Scale and data contained in the records of patients. The Braden Scale has the indicator as follows: level of sensory perception, skin moisture, activity level, physical mobility, nutritional status, friction and shear. The activity index (bedridden), was most affected with 100%, and this indicator is influenced by the environment of the ICU that there does not have options for use of the patient as toilet seats, among others. The indicator friction and shear (problem) was also affected due to the clinical situation in which they were patients. The results presented indicate the need for implementation of the Braden Scale in the ICU of the institution researched, designed to make patient care more effective. As úlceras por pressão são lesões cutâneas ou de partes moles, superficiais ou profundas que se formam devido à falta de oxigênio e/ou de nutrientes para atender as necessidades dos tecidos. São em geral causadas pela pressão exercida sobre uma área de tecido, não permitindo a perfusão suficiente. Acomete principalmente pacientes acamados, sendo que nas Unidades de Terapia Intensiva sua ocorrência é mais frequente. Este trabalho trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória com abordagem quantitativa que tem como objetivo classificar os riscos de úlceras por pressão dos pacientes hospitalizados, por meio da escala de Braden, bem como avaliar qual o indicador da escala se mostrou mais afetado nos pacientes avaliados. A amostra do estudo foi composta de 23 pacientes internados na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva do Hospital Universitário João de Barros Barreto, no período de setembro a novembro de 2011. Para identificar os escores de risco utilizou-se a Escala de Braden e dados contidos no prontuário dos pacientes. A Escala de Braden tem como indicador os seguintes: nível de percepção sensorial, umidade cutânea, grau de atividade, mobilidade física, estado nutricional, fricção e cisalhamento. O indicador atividade (acamado) mostrou-se mais afetado com 100% (23 pessoas), sendo que este indicador sofre a influencia do ambiente da UTI que não ainda não possui opções para uso do paciente como banheiro, poltronas, dentre outros. O indicador fricção e cisalhamento (problema) também se mostrou afetado por conta da situação clínica em que se encontravam os pacientes.
