To thiswas held informal interviews withemployees involved in street cleaning and the local population and positioning in relation to the problem of waste in the city;besides following the steps, observing the basic procedures and the possible impacts due this. Thus it was found that the local government does not have the technical mechanisms to ensure the operationalization of this process effectively. One of the most worrying problems in the city is related to the environmental damage because of the inadequate disposal of municipal waste, which is accumulated in a dump. However, it is noticeable that the population contributes to this situation, showing reprehensible attitudes regarding the use and management of waste they produce in the city. To the detriment of the problems encountered it is necessary study through the Plan for Solid Waste Management (PSWM) and projects to build sustainable landfill and finally environmental education projects that contribute to the awakening of political and popular collaboration ensuring a better management of solid waste in the city. Neste estudo o objetivo geral foi investigar o gerenciamento dos resíduos sólidos urbanos do município de Açailândia/Ma, avaliando o atual estágio das etapas (coleta, transporte e destino final). Ainda, propor procedimentos para seu melhor aproveitamento. Para tanto, realizou-se entrevistas informais com funcionários envolvidos no processo de limpeza urbana e população local vislumbrando a relação e posicionamento frente à problemática dos resíduos na cidade; além de acompanhar as etapas, observando os procedimentos básicos e os possíveis impactos decorrentes dos mesmos. Dessa forma verificou-se que a prefeitura local não dispõe de mecanismos técnicos que garantam a operacionalização desse processo com eficácia. Um dos problemas mais preocupantes na cidade está relacionado aos danos ambientais provocados, pois há uma disposição inadequada dos resíduos urbanos, sendo estes acumulados em um lixão. No entanto, ressalta-se que a população contribui para essa situação, mostrando posturas condenáveis quanto ao uso e manejo dos resíduos que produzem na cidade. Em detrimento dos problemas verificados faz-se necessário medidas, como estudos através do Plano de Gerenciamento de Resíduos Sólidos Urbanos (PGRS) e projetos para construção de aterro sustentável e por fim trabalhos de educação ambiental que contribuam para o despertar da colaboração política e popular, na garantia de um melhor gerenciamento dos resíduos sólidos no município. 2019-06-05T17:14:30Z 2019-06-05T17:14:30Z 2014 Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso - Especialização FERREIRA, Cisleyde Mônica Cassiano Cunha.
