It is an exploratory and descriptive research, based on techniques for collecting qualitative data, which aims to identify the changes occurred in the festivities starting from their record. For this, fieldwork was carried out at January 2016 during the festivities in two municipalities representing different Marajós: São Sebastião da Boa Vista, located at Marajó Forest, and Cachoeira do Arari, situated in Marajó Field. The focus of the research was listening to the possessors of the festivities, their joys and difficulties at arrange and develop these events, to later analyze the registration process and State's planning for safeguarding. In this sense, presents the safeguarding actions of the festivities already in place, highlighting the role of Iphan in safeguarding the intangible heritage. Also analyzes how the record and safeguard actions changed the symbols and practices developed in the festivities. As a result, there were different levels of knowledge and exploitation about public policy of the heritage protection by their owners. As well, the different configurations and symbologies that the festivities take, constituting as an intercultural heritage. Esta pesquisa aborda as Festividades do Glorioso São Sebastião, que ocorrem em 14 municípios da mesorregião do Marajó, as quais foram inseridas no Livro de Celebrações do Iphan em 2013, se constituindo como um bem cultural imaterial brasileiro reconhecido e em processo de salvaguarda. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de caráter exploratório e descritivo, baseada em técnicas de coleta de dados qualitativas, que tem por objetivo identificar as transformações ocorridas nas festividades a partir de seu registro. Para isso, foi realizada uma pesquisa de campo em janeiro de 2016, durante as festividades em dois municípios que representam os diferentes Marajós: São Sebastião da Boa Vista, que está localizado no Marajó das Florestas, e Cachoeira do Arari, localizado no Marajó dos Campos. O foco da pesquisa foi ouvir os detentores do patrimônio, suas alegrias e dificuldades na organização e desenvolvimento das festividades, para posteriormente, analisar o processo de registro e o planejamento das ações de salvaguarda pelo Estado. Neste sentido, apresenta as ações de salvaguarda das festividades já implantadas, destacando o papel do Iphan na salvaguarda do patrimônio imaterial. Analisa, ainda, de que modo o registro e ações de salvaguarda alteraram as simbologias e práticas desenvolvidas nas festividades. Como resultado, observaram-se os diferentes níveis de conhecimento e instrumentalização da política pública de proteção do patrimônio por seus detentores.
