Resumo:
This study aims to contribute to the understanding of tidal channels localized in Marajó island to quantify the importance that these smaller systems have on the Marajó bay. Data were collected of tidal current and salinity for 13 hours at spring tide in August and December 2010, in four tidal channels, two located at Soure and two others at Salvaterra. The data were analyzed spatially and seasonally. It was concluded that, directly influenced by the climate of the region, salinity and current data varied greatly during the different periods. The salinity, on the less rainy season had greater value, 6,39, than in the rainy season, 5,9, due to the reduction of freshwater inflow. The intensity of tidal currents was also influenced by the difference of rainfall on the region. During the rainy season, the currents on the channels were less intense, with maximum of 156 cm/s, as well as its liquid transport into the bay was lower. The opposite was found in the less rainy season, when the flow was lower in the bay, with maximum value of 199 cm/s, which allowed greater channel water outlet to the bay, due to the lower hydrostatic pressure exerted by it in this period.
