For the characterization of bottom’s sedimentation of the lower course Araguari river were analyzed sub-samples of sediments collected during the second expedition performed by the staff of the Instituto de Pesquisas Científicas e Tecnológicas do Estado do Amapá – IEPA to the Biological Reserve of Piratuba Lake in November 2005 . In the 17 profiles drawn in lines across the river course with equidistance of 5 km were collected, through a sampler of Petersen, 70 sediment samples weighing approximately 1 kg, after which the work done in the laboratory could be inferred that from the classification by the average of the grains size the area presents its sedimentary constitution represented basically by pelitic sediments and that according to the classification of sediment analysis from Folk & Ward, were obtained three textural subclasses that are represented by medium silt, fine silt and coarse clay. These results were essential for making the letter distribution of sediments of the Araguari river, on the stretch between the Santana creek and the proximal area to its mouth. O estuário do rio Araguari é um sistema dominado por marés que alcançam cerca de 5 metros de altura em sua foz, e que adentram o estuário seguindo por seus segmentos meandrantes, constituindo o mais expressivo sistema de drenagem do estado do Amapá em extensão, largura e volume de água, tendo seu baixo curso limitado a sul pelo rio Amazonas e a norte pela Região dos Lagos do Amapá. Para a caracterização sedimentar de fundo do baixo curso do rio Araguari foram analisadas sub-amostras dos sedimentos coletados durante a segunda expedição realizada pela equipe do Instituto de Pesquisas Científicas e Tecnológicas do Estado do Amapá – IEPA à Reserva Biológica do Lago Piratuba em novembro de 2005. Nos 17 perfis traçados em linhas transversais ao curso do rio com eqüidistância de 5 Km foram coletadas, através de um amostrador do tipo Petersen, 70 amostras de sedimento com peso aproximado de 1 Kg, que após o trabalho realizado em laboratório pôde-se inferir que a partir da classificação pela média do tamanho dos grãos a área estudada apresenta a sua constituição sedimentar representada basicamente por sedimentos pelíticos e que de acordo com a classificação do sedimento analisado a partir de Folk & Ward, foram obtidas três subclasses texturais que são representadas por silte médio, silte fino e argila grossa.
