Resumo:
The Cabo Norte region, close to the Amazon River mouth is submitted to the meteorological, oceanographic and Amazonian forcing agents. In this scenario is located the Sucuriju river, an exoreic drainage which receives the waters from the Cinturão Lacustre Oriental, due the connection with the Urubu creek and the flooded plain of Piratuba Lake. The bottom sediment collection was made in both fluvial and coastal area. The collected material was submitted to grain size and mineralogical analysis (total mineralogy and clay minerals) through DRX. The results of gran size showed a mean distribution of 18,60% to sand, 8,62% to clay, and with predominance of silt, 72,78%, with percentages ranging from 35,77% to 92,73%. The sediments of the Sucuriju river mouth mineralogical composition is: quartz, albite, muscovite, k-feldspar, and the Clay minerals ilite, smectite, caolinite e chlorite, being similar to the assemblage found at the lakes region, suggesting a sedimentary transport from the lacustrine system to the fluvial-estuarine system. The results allowed to improve the understanding the actual environmental hydrodynamic and sedimentation, giving keys to study the sediments origin at the Sucuriju river mouth.
