Resumo:
This study analyzed the distribution of data and characteristics of rainfall, heavy thunderstorms and precipitation systems (Precipitation Features, PFs) observed via satellite Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), from December 1997 to December 2012 on Colombia. The PFs are defined by data from sensors Precipitation Radar (PR) and TRMM Microwave Imager (TMI); and data from the lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS). The PFs are defined by precipitating types of systems: PFs the presence of ice (WICE) PFs without the presence of ice (WOICE) and PFs with mesoscale convective system (MCS); the study area was divided into four regions to conduct an analysis on the characteristics of rainfall in Colombia. The largest amounts of annual precipitation were observed in the Colombian western part, especially the city of Quibdo is influenced by the low-level jet: CHOCO. In the analyzes of precipitation systems realized the great contribution of the PFs with MCS and ice spreading in the central part of the study area in the period when the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) decreases its influence on the Colombian territory, and this is a leading systems that contribute to the occurrence of rains in Colombia.
