The TRMM satellite rainfall at high spatial resolution (0.25 °) allowed investigating the configuration of regional precipitation variability associated with the Madeira river in Porto Velho. Considering the wet period, whose annual peak occurs in March, it was found that the rainfall preceding two months (January) the flood peak is associated with the ITCZ and convection in most of Amazon region. For the month before (February) and during the peak of flood (March) the results showed the influence of frontal systems organizing tropical convection in western Amazon. For the dry period whose annual peak occurs in September, it was observed that from July to September (lags of -2, -1 and 0) the rainfall occurrence are related to the frontal systems positioned in Southeast and Central western Brazil which enhance the tropical convection causing rainfall in the region of Rondônia, which explain the fluviometric variability above the normal. The relationship between river variability and tropical Oceans showed that river level below normal periods are associated with negative SST anomalies, i.e., the La Niña episodes in the Pacific Ocean. For the wet season, correlations were noted only in the eastern Pacific and results more evident in northern and southern subtropical Atlantic Ocean. Usando dados de cota fluviométrica do rio Madeira em Porto Velho num período de 36 anos (1974 a 2010) evidenciou-se que durante o ano hidrológico, os meses de Novembro a março representam o período de cheia do rio Madeira, enquanto que os meses de Maio a Setembro representam o período de vazante do rio Madeira. Os dados de precipitação do satélite TRMM em alta resolução espacial (0.25º) permitiram investigar a configuração da chuva regional influenciando a variabilidade de cota do rio Madeira. Considerando o período de cheia, cujo pico máximo anual ocorre em Março, verificou-se que a chuva que antecede 2 meses (Janeiro) o pico de cheia associa-se à ZCIT e convecção em grande parte da Amazônia. Para o mês que antecede (Fevereiro) e durante o mês de pico da cheia (Março) observou-se a influência de sistemas frontais organizando a convecção na Amazônia ocidental. Já para o período de vazante, cujo pico mínimo anual deflagra-se no mês de Setembro, observou-se que desde Julho a Setembro (defasagens de -2, -1 e 0) persiste a influência de sistemas frontais na região sudeste e centro-oeste do Brasil que intensificam a convecção e provocam chuva na região de Rondônia, explicando a variabilidade de cota acima do normal. A relação da variabilidade de cota do rio Madeira com os Oceanos tropicais indicaram que eventos de vazante abaixo do normal associam-se com anomalias negativas de TSM, ou seja, aos episódios La Niña sobre o Pacífico.
