Therefore, one end up building a system that meets the informational demands of the institution. However, not always Natural History Museums have a more elaborate documentation system with informational support, which allows designating all processes elapsed with their museum objects, and end up suffering from a shortage of records in their collections. In this regard, the need to build systems for museum documentation and cataloging, to provide the maximization of the recovery and use of information is presented. In this work, a cataloging form and its filling guide is elaborated for the Paleoinvertebrates Collection of the Paraense Emílio Goeldi Museum (MPEG), with the intuit to safeguard the museum collection and also to disseminate the knowledge, contributing, therefore, in its construction and preservation; it is important to know that this collection is the major source of research and knowledge about the paleobiological diversity of the Amazon region. However, it is known that the preparation of the cataloging form for this collection is just one of the preliminary steps to implement a more complex documentary system, with information retrieval systems and also in the near future a better availability of the information in the network, facilitating the paleontological research and the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the community. This work points out a good intersection of diverse knowledge from the Museology and Paleontology, especially in case of museological documentation for the management and maintenance of paleontological collections. A documentação em museus busca atuar como auxílio do tratamento informacional das coleções, desde o seu registro em campo até as informações referentes à “vida” do objeto dentro da instituição. Dessa forma, acaba-se construindo um sistema que atende as demandas informacionais da instituição. Entretanto, nem sempre os museus de História Natural possuem um sistema de documentação mais elaborado, com suportes informacionais que permitam designar todos os processos decorridos com seus objetos museológicos e acabam por sofrer com uma escassez de registros em seus acervos. Neste sentido, aponta-se a necessidade da construção de sistemas documentais museológicos e de catalogação que proporcionem a maximização na recuperação e uso da informação. No caso específico deste trabalho, elaborou-se uma ficha catalográfica e seu manual de preenchimento para a Coleção de Paleoinvertebrados do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (MPEG) para a ação de salvaguarda do acervo e disseminação do conhecimento, contribuindo na sua construção e preservação, destacando que esse acervo é uma grande fonte de pesquisa e de conhecimento sobre a diversidade paleobiológica da região Amazônica. No entanto sabe-se que a elaboração da ficha de catalogação desta coleção é apenas um dos passos preliminares para implementação de um sistema documental mais complexo, com sistemas de recuperação de informação e até para futuramente uma melhor disponibilidade informacional em rede, facilitando a pesquisa paleontológica e a difusão de conhecimentos científicos à comunidade.
