In this research develops a study of the public in the surrounding area and the Museum of Sacred Art of Bethlehem (MAS), to identify educational activities that can be developed in this museum which favor increased significantly and the interest of visitors. Therefore it was necessary a study of the public with the publics actual and potential museum to give subsidies to the directions of the construction of the Museum Education Project (MEP). The Museum of Sacred Art of Bethlehem was chosen as the site of this study, as one of the most visited museums in the city of Belém do Pará In order to meet the public and real potential of this museum, the extension project of the Federal University of Pará , "Ex Ducere: creating links between Museum, University and Community" conducted a study of the public through interviews with thousands of people who live and / or working in the vicinity of the museum type survey using questionnaires and collaboration of 26 volunteers. Data were analyzed from a hermeneutic phenomenological approach to understanding the reasons why these people do not come to the museum and create new strategies for mediation and communication between museum and community, based on the theoretical knowledge of the field of Museology and from these interlocutions propose new educational museum. O estudo de público é um importante instrumento de avaliação e criação de novas estratégias de recepção de públicos em museus, e apresenta dados que permitem compreender qual a relação que os indivíduos estabelecem com um museu. Nessa pesquisa se desenvolve um estudo de público na área de entorno e no Museu de Arte Sacra de Belém (MAS), para se identificar ações educativas que podem ser desenvolvidas nesse museu que favoreçam o aumento significativo e o interesse dos visitantes. Para tanto se fez necessário um estudo de público com o público real e potencial do museu para dá subsídios para os direcionamentos da construção do Projeto Educativo do Museu (PEM). O Museu de Arte Sacra de Belém foi escolhido como local deste estudo, por ser um dos museus mais visitados da cidade de Belém do Pará. Com o objetivo de conhecer o público real e potencial desse museu, o projeto de extensão da Universidade Federal do Pará, “Ex Ducere: criando laços entre Museu, Universidade e Comunidade” realizou um estudo de público através de entrevistas com mil pessoas moradoras e/ou trabalhadores no entorno do museu, utilizando questionários tipo survey e a colaboração de 26 voluntários.
