This clay material is tightly controlled over geologic time by the hydrodynamic action of the Rio Guama and Irituia. These deposits are all tied to the floodplain of the rivers mentioned above. The most potentially economic clays of the region are located in shallower levels in the extraction areas and farther from the river beds, but within the flood zone thereof, that fact is probably due to non-deposition of organic matter brought by the rivers more distant points of its floodplain. Clays of Sao Miguel do Guama, has stood out enough in the consumer market for its high technological power in the production of tiles and bricks. This technological feature satisfies properties such as the breakdown voltage of the bending, the lower water absorption, color after firing, less me ferruginous concretion and low organic matter content. Nas últimas décadas, com o setor da construção civil aquecido no Brasil, a indústria da cerâmica paraense aposta na qualidade dos produtos para ganhar o mercado e desponta como um dos principais polos produtores da região Norte do país, dentro desse contexto o município de São Miguel do Guamá localizado na porção nordeste do Estado do Pará destaca-se como grande produtor de bens „‟Minerais Sociais‟‟ de uso na indústria da construção civil com destaque para os derivados da argila, se tornado segundo a SEDEME(Secretaria de Estado e Desenvolvimento Econômico, Mineração e Energia)a 4º Maior Produção da Mineração do Brasil(em volume) Abaixo Apenas da Produção de ferro e de Agregado(Areia e Brita)tendo a Região Metropolitana de Belém e o município de Castanhal como os maiores centros consumidores, embora atualmente venha aumentando a exportação para o sul-sudeste do pais. No ano de 2009 o município de São Miguel do Guamá contribui com uma produção de aproximadamente 34.200.000 (trinta e quatro milhões e duzentos mil) peças/mês e gerava aproximadamente 2.800 (dois mil e oitocentos) empregos diretos e indiretos, apresentando-se como os maiores produtores de cerâmica vermelha do Estado do Pará. Segundo SINDCER (Sindicato das Industrias Cerâmicas de São Miguel do Guamá e Região) no ano de 2015 ainda com a crise conseguiu atingir a incrível média de 55.200.000 peças/mês e gerou aproximadamente 3.680(três mil seiscentos e oitenta) empregos diretos e indiretos, sendo As argilas presentes nos município de coloração cinza acastanhado marcada por concreções ferruginosas e aspecto plástico. Esse material argiloso é fortemente controlado ao longo do tempo geológico pela ação hidrodinâmica dos Rios Guamá e Irituia. Esses depósitos são todos balizados pela planície de inundação dos rios anteriormente mencionados. As argilas mais potencialmente econômicas da região são localizadas em níveis mais rasos nas áreas de extração bem como mais distante dos leitos de rios, porém dentro da zona de inundação dos mesmos, esse fato provavelmente é devido a não deposição de matéria orgânica trazida pelos rios em pontos mais distante de sua planície de inundação. As argilas de São Miguel do Guamá, vem se destacando bastante dentro do mercado consumidor pelo seu alto poder tecnológico na produção de telhas e tijolos.
