During the development of the activities it was possible to perceive that the work with socially significant themes positively favored the insertion of the scientific knowledge in the EJA and the participation of the students. Scientific literacy can be used as a way to enhance the teaching of the mother tongue, and for this we perceive the work with the textual gender as a way of interconnecting the contents of different areas of knowledge. O presente trabalho de cunho explanatório tem como estudo objetivo relatar alguns resultados de pesquisa realizada em uma turma de Educação de Jovens e Adultos (EJA), na qual são analisados aspectos envolvidos no desenvolvimento de atividades de alfabetização e letramento na língua materna integrada ao conhecimento de ciências. Durante o desenvolvimento das atividades foi possível destacar dois aspectos das análises: (a) o trabalho com temas socialmente significativos, que favoreceu positivamente a inserção do conhecimento científico na EJA e a participação dos estudantes; (b) A abordagem do gênero textual como objeto de ensino que possibilitou a articulação entre a língua materna e ciências em termos de alfabetização e letramento.
