The general objective is to contribute to the area of Information Thematic Processing (TTI) in a discussion about the elements of indexation policy for indexing and analysis of the subject, and its reflexes directly in the information retrieval. Therefore, the specific objectives are: a) To make the theoretical survey on indexing in the thematic representation of information in university libraries and information retrieval by the end user; b) Study the elements of Indexing Policy: exhaustiveness and specificity c) Investigate the documents retrieved in the search in the catalog of Prof. Elcy Rodrigues Lacerda / ICED / UFPA Library under the evaluation of pertinence of the users from the indexation policy elements : completeness and specificity. The methodology used was the observational methodological procedure and semi-structured interview application as the users of the library. The results obtained regarding the indexation evaluation, considered from the elements of exhaustiveness and specificity that the indexation is being largely carried out according to the needs of the users. It was also possible to observe the dissatisfaction presented by few users in relation to a certain term assigned to represent the subject of a given document, therefore, given the importance that the evaluation of the indexation presents in the search results of the users, it could be inferred that the research is very relevant for the improvement of indexing in online catalogs. For, like the other services provided by the library, this evaluation must be carried out continuously to improve the task of indexing in order to satisfy the user seeking information. A pesquisa busca avaliar a representação temática da informação na biblioteca universitária, por meio de análise dos elementos de política de indexação na recuperação da informação, para que se avalie a qualidade da indexação na representação dos assuntos, portanto tem como proposta avaliar a indexação a partir dos elementos de política de indexação: exaustividade e especificidade nos resultados obtidos nas buscas dos usuários, visando contribuir para a reflexão e discussão sobre a representação da informação e sua interferência na recuperação da informação. O objetivo geral busca contribuir para a área de Tratamento Temático da Informação (TTI) em discussão referente aos elementos de política de indexação para a indexação e análise de assunto, e seus reflexos diretamente na recuperação da informação. Logo, os objetivos específicos são: a) Fazer o levantamento teórico sobre a indexação na representação temática da informação em bibliotecas universitárias e recuperação da informação pelo usuário final; b) Estudar os elementos de Política de indexação: exaustividade e especificidade e c) Investigar os documentos recuperados na busca no catálogo da Biblioteca Prof.ª Elcy Rodrigues Lacerda/ICED/UFPA sob a avaliação de pertinência dos usuários a partir dos elementos de política de indexação: exaustividade e especificidade. A metodologia utilizada foi o procedimento metodológico observacional e aplicação de entrevista semiestruturada como os usuários da biblioteca. Os resultados obtidos quanto à avaliação da indexação, consideraram a partir dos elementos de exaustividade e especificidade que a indexação está sendo em grande parte realizada de acordo com as necessidades dos usuários. Também pôde-se observar a insatisfação apresentada por poucos usuários em relação a determinado termo atribuído para representar o assunto de determinado documento, portanto, dado a importância que a avaliação da indexação apresenta nos resultados das buscas dos usuários, pôde-se inferir que a pesquisa é bastante relevante para o aperfeiçoamento da indexação em catálogos on-line.
