In this research, we propose a relationship between the mathematical concept of measurement system and the riverside practices observed in the Jupiriquara River, located in the city of Abaetetuba/PA. In Pará, açaí is considered the black gold, not only for riverside families that have açaí production, but also for hammer workers, middlemen, pickers, buyers and exporters. Due to my experience in a riverside environment and being a student of the Licentiate Degree in Mathematics, I could see that the riverside social environment can be linked to the teaching of mathematics, thus helping the mathematics teacher to develop new processes for teaching and learning mathematics. Based on this relationship, we use D'Ambrósio(1996) as a foundation, when he portrays the transcendence of a social being, using Ethnomathematics as a Trend in Mathematics Education. We make a historical overview of the measurement system and the changes that occur over time, we describe riverside practices giving relevance to the production and management of açaí, and mathematics and its social interactions and Ethnomathematics.
