Document management is a process that drives the development of any institution whether public or private as long as there is a planning for the flow control and document production. Thus, the present research aimed to perform a situational diagnosis in the medical archive of Patient Information Management, of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará Foundation, which sought to know the daily activities performed by the archives' servers, to ascertain in what in this situation the documents are packed and if there are measures in the institution that aim to alleviate the excess of documentary production and the scarcity of physical space. The research is characterized as a case study, and for this foundation we used theoretical references, descriptive analysis and as a tool for data collection the conduct interviews. The results show the types of activities performed in the archive, how the documents are wrapped and the measures directed to the control of documentary production and the scarcity of physical space in the institution, proposing questions and suggestions to alleviate the problems related to document management and reflections on lack of an archivist in the institution's staff.
