Strength Training (TF) has been widely used as a training protocol aimed at improving the performance of athletes and for maintaining the health of special groups. Intellectual Disability (ID) is a disease that affects the intellect and not the functioning of the mind in general. The person with ID has a cognitive impairment, has a delay in their development, difficulties to interact with the environment in which they live and perform daily tasks. The objective of this study was to investigate whether the practice of strength training in people with intellectual disability promotes improvements in health and in Activities of Daily Living. For this, a bibliographic review was carried out, based on a survey of works published from 2003 to 2020, in the platforms: Google Academic, Scielo, Capes Journal Portal and Pub Med. strength for intellectual disability” and “Activity of daily living”. The results were presented in a table, following the chronological order with the names of the authors, title of the work, place and year of publication and a brief summary of the results. It was possible to conclude that strength training presents acute and chronic physiological responses, promoting significant improvements in the variables strength, balance, motor coordination, physical fitness, decrease in body fat and increase in bone mass. Such benefits directly impact the Activities of Daily Living of the DI, as they guarantee greater autonomy to these individuals when performing daily movements such as sitting and standing, going up and down and combing their hair.
