The present work aims to report the experience of participating in the Pedagogical Residency, which took place in a Municipal Elementary School in the municipality of Abaetetuba-PA. The program, offered by the Federal University of Pará, aims to provide students with direct contact with reality education, with students and with the school space, through observations, applications of projects and school administration. The experience took place in all the classrooms of the school (1st to 5th year), but the observation took place over a longer period in the 4th year class of elementary school, where two students were followed up more directly in the literacy process. The experience was of paramount importance for the construction initial phase of the residents' academic training, from which it was possible to know the reality of the school environment, exchange experiences with preceptors and experience in the practice the role of the pedagogue in the school environment.
