However, during this procedure complications may occur and increase the morbidity and mortality of patients with chronic kidney disease, such as intradialytic hypotension, which can be prevented by using cold dialysate. The aim of this study is to analyze the effects of cold dialysate on reducing the occurrence of intradialytic hypotension, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of its use in chronic renal patients undergoing hemodialysis. This is a narrative literature review which was carried out through bibliographic research in electronic databases of Academic Google, PubMed and EMBASE. The articles have been submitted to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, being selected from exploratory, selective, analytical and interpretive readings sequentially. Finally, the processes for listing the selected articles and preparing the final report have been carried out. Precisely,14,500 results have been found in Google Scholar, 51 in PubMed and 33 in EMBASE. For the preparation of this study, 68 articles were selected being 53 from Academic Google, 11 from PubMed and 4 from EMBASE, which show that reducing the dialysate temperature may cause thermal discomfort in some patients, but also can provide several advantages to patients with chronic kidney failure on hemodialysis, such as: hemodynamic, cardiovascular, cerebral benefits, reduction of post-dialysis fatigue and of the itching as well as improved sleep. Furthermore, this procedure is not worse than other methods of preventing intradialytic hypotension. However, lack of available studies show limitations, such as reduced samples and short follow-up period, which make difficult the achievement of solid recommendations for the universal application of the procedure. Due to the long period of study of the subject, it is inferred that cold dialysate represents a form of individualization of the treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease, designed to meet the necessity to modify traditional dialysis techniques. No período entre 2009 a 2018, o Brasil apresentou uma elevação progressiva do número de pacientes prevalentes em programa de diálise crônica, sendo a hemodiálise o tratamento mais utilizado. Porém, durante esse procedimento, podem ocorrer complicações que elevam a morbimortalidade dos portadores de doença renal crônica, como a hipotensão intradialítica, a qual pode ser prevenida pelo uso do dialisato frio. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar os efeitos do dialisato frio sobre a redução da ocorrência de hipotensão intradialítica, bem como as vantagens e desvantagens de seu uso em doentes renais crônicos em hemodiálise. Trata-se de uma revisão narrativa de literatura, a qual foi realizada por intermédio de pesquisa bibliográfica em bases eletrônicas de dados do Google Acadêmico, PubMed e EMBASE. Os artigos foram submetidos aos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, sendo selecionados a partir das leituras exploratória, seletiva, analítica e interpretativa, sequencialmente. Por fim, foram efetuados os processos de fichamento dos artigos eleitos e elaboração do relatório final. Precisamente, foram encontrados 14.500 resultados no Google Acadêmico, 51 no PubMed e 33 no EMBASE. Para a confecção do trabalho, foram selecionados 68 artigos, sendo 53 do Google Acadêmico, 11 do PubMed e 4 do EMBASE. Verificou-se que a redução da temperatura do dialisato, embora ocasione desconforto térmico em alguns pacientes, pode propiciar diversas vantagens aos indivíduos com falência renal crônica em hemodiálise, como: benefícios hemodinâmicos, cardiovasculares, cerebrais, redução da síndrome de fadiga pós-diálise e do prurido, bem como a melhoria do sono. Ademais, tal técnica não se mostrou inferior aos outros métodos de prevenção de hipotensão intradialítica. Contudo, os estudos disponíveis apresentam limitações, como amostras reduzidas e curto período de acompanhamento, o que prejudica a obtenção de recomendações sólidas para a aplicação universal da técnica.
