Resumo:
Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease, whose etiologic agent is Mycobacterium leprae (M. leprae). It is a disease that affects the superficial nerves of the skin and peripheral nerve trunks and can also affect internal organs. In the absence of treatment, reactions can occur that damage peripheral nerves, causing physical disabilities and sequelae. Brazil ranks second in the world with more new cases of leprosy, which makes the disease a public health problem. In addition, with the high prevalence of cases in the state of Pará and the changes triggered by the implantation of the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant, knowledge of the clinical, epidemiological and spatial profile of leprosy in the municipality of Altamira is extremely relevant. Objective: To investigate the clinical-epidemiological profile and the spatial distribution of leprosy cases in the municipality of Altamira, in the context of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Plant, between the years 2010 and 2020. Method: Descriptive and exploratory research to analyze the distribution of leprosy in the municipality of Altamira and to identify factors related to its occurrence. Retrospective ecological observational study that investigates the spatial and temporal distribution of leprosy in Altamira and its relationship with the implantation of the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant, an undertaking with the potential to cause high local impact.
