The theme of Affirmative Actions achieved strong repercussion in Brazilian society,
primarily after the promulgation and validity of the Federal Constitution of 1988, which
positively provides the safeguarding of human rights, especially equality among all
citizens. However, Affirmative Action policies have always had resistance by a significant
portion of the Brazilian population, in relation to the adoption of reservation of vacancies
or racial quotas in public universities.
It should also be noted that this resistance is just one of the many challenges faced by
social groups that are part of the social and political scope of these actions, which make
use of these inclusion policies for admission to public universities, which is the heart of
this work. After this first moment, it begins the after-entry period in the academic
environment and the challenges to remain in it.
Despite the creation of norms, such as the Law 12.711/2012, which provides the reserve
of 50% of the vacancies of public universities, moreover, the reservation of vacancies
directed to candidates belonging to indigenous peoples and also to the remaining
quilombo communities, as the Federal University of Pará in 2012, it is still not enough to
guarantee equality and even the guarantees of rights enshrined in the Federal
Constitution of 1988. However, for these rights and guarantees take effect, it is
indispensable to break existing taboos in the thinking and culture of the Brazilian people
for hundreds of years, like it happens with racism. |
